How to Compare a Domestic Holiday Budget

Use the same trip brief

Give each proposal the same departure city, dates, traveller count and required nights. A four-day itinerary with three hotel nights is not the same as four full sightseeing days. Put the arrival and departure timings beside the itinerary so you can see how much time is available in each destination.

Separate reaching the destination from touring it

Check whether the quoted amount includes your flight or train to the starting point. Then review airport or station transfers and local sightseeing transport. For a route with several overnight stops, ask about driving time and vehicle arrangements. A cheaper stay farther from the places you want to visit can change both your daily schedule and transport cost.

Compare accommodation on a like-for-like basis

Confirm hotel names or the proposed category, room type, occupancy, meal basis and the number of nights at each stop. Ask how children’s bedding and meals are priced. For a family or group, compare the full party total rather than multiplying an advertised per-person amount without checking the sharing basis.

Add the costs outside the package

List entry tickets, local activities, meals outside the plan and other separately quoted arrangements. Ask for applicable taxes and supplier charges in the written total. Finally, compare payment dates and cancellation terms. Use the guide price to shortlist a route, then make the booking decision from the complete dated proposal.
